The Medical Billing degree program is designed to prepare the student for employment as a medical biller in a medical or dental office, hospital, clinic, or by an independent billing company.
Medical Billing Specialists will prepare various health claims forms required by the insurance industry using medical billing software. This involves practicing accurate interpretation of medical records, including procedures performed and the diagnosis determined by the health care provider, and correctly documenting and coding the information for submission to the insurance company for payment. Medical billing clerks will also review and maintain orders, invoices and records to ensure accuracy. They are also responsible for maintaining all patient payment records.
Medical Billing positions will work with health practitioners like chiropractors and podiatrists. Other options include working with outpatient care centers, public and private educational services, other ambulatory healthcare services, State and local government agencies, medical and diagnostic laboratories, nursing care facilities, and employment services.
