Airframe & Powerplant (Associate's Degree)
Airframe and Powerplant Technicians, often called A&P's, are the technicians who keep aircraft in safe flying condition. They are trained to service, repair and overhaul virtually all aircraft components and systems. A&P technicians must complete specialized training and pass Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certification tests. An Aircraft Mechanic performs the maintenance, inspection, and repair of an aircraft. Most aircraft mechanics work on a variety of different aircrafts and systems, such as the engines, brakes, landing gear, electrical systems and aircraft structures; but some specialize in repairing specific parts of the aircraft, such as the instruments or hydraulic systems. WyoTech's Aircraft Mechanic program is approved by the Federal Aviation Administration and can be completed in 16 months.

Aviation Career Information

To keep aircraft in peak operating condition, aircraft and avionics equipment mechanics and service technicians perform scheduled maintenance, make repairs, and complete inspections required by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Many aircraft mechanics, also called airframe, powerplant, and avionics aviation maintenance technicians, specialize in preventive maintenance. They inspect engines, landing gear, instruments, pressurized sections, accessories-brakes, valves, pumps, and air-conditioning systems. Some mechanics work on one or many different types of aircraft, such as jets, propeller-driven airplanes, and helicopters. Others specialize in one section of a particular type of aircraft, such as the engine, hydraulics, or electrical system. A degree in aviation from a California aviation college is your ticket to an exciting career in aviation.
